The lab consists of two units which serve the following research areas:
Parallel and Distributed Systems and Computing Unit
The scientific area of design and implementation of parallel and distributed systems and applications is a constantly evolving area which is a key driving force for the rapid development of IT services and telecommunications, especially in the industry 4.0 era. The Research Unit aims to strengthen the teaching and research activities of the members of the research team of the laboratory and its partners in the fields of parallel algorithms and applications on multiprocessor systems and computer clusters, distributed systems, calculation grids in computational systems of mobile and pervasive computing and applications of mobile ad-hoc networks, wireless networks of sensors and actuators, security systems and services in distributed environments. The research and education field of the Research Unit of Parallel and Distributed Systems and Computation includes the following fields:
Broadband communications, networks and cybersecurity unit
Nowadays the widespread use of the Internet for many applications by end users (individuals, public organizations, industry) has been the driving force for growth. The impact of the internet does not end at the economic level, on the contrary is a powerful lever of social transformations as a result of the significant influence that social networks like facebook, twitter politics and development movements. The main technologies that make it possible to use the Internet with satisfactory service quality are fifth generation mobile networks including the upcoming 6G evolution and the optical backbone networks. Today optical communications are the dominant implementation technology telecommunications backbone network systems, but also one of the most prevalent technologies to achieve high-speed low energy access networks (fiber to the home). The dynamicity of wireless communication and the guaranteed broadband optical communication makes their convergence in integrated access and sensor networks with efficient support of optimized algorithms sharing resources and secure communications an imperative need.
On this basis, the Research Unit for Broadband Communications, Networks and Cybersecurity of PDSN Lab aims to research activity focusing on modern concepts and communication systems technologies and network architectures that serve the continuously growing traffic in long-haul networks and data centers, supercomputers and demanding services such as cloud computing and Internet of Things with an emphasis on optimizing the use of resources and security. The field of research and education of Broadband Communications and Networks includes the following research topics
